Animal Hay Sculptures Greet Guests This Fall at Killington, Vt.’s Snowed Inn, as Part of a “Hay and Stay” Package
Town of Killington Features Upwards of 40 Unique Animal Hay Sculptures, a Hay Maze for Kids and Foliage in the Green Mountains
KILLINGTON, Vt., (Sept. 21, 2011)—Rosie the Raccoon and her babies lived at the Snowed Inn last fall and this year, the innkeepers at the hotel-style inn are crafting ideas for their 2011 hay sculpture as part of the town’s Hay Festival, on display through Oct. 10. For the fourth year in a row, owner Manfred Karlhuber and Assistant Innkeeper Jim Gasco will create a giant animal structure, made creatively from hay. This year “Eloise the Elephant” will make her debut. Snowed Inn is offering special a “Hay and Stay” Package available through Columbus Day from $110 per room per night.
“Rosie has been a part of our family for awhile now, but it is time for a creative change this year,” said Jeanne Karlhuber, innkeeper and owner of the Snowed Inn. “So many of the sculptures are simply amazing, like last year’s 25-foot teddy bear and a 2,000-pound pink pig. The local businesses go all out on the sculptures, and it’s fun to drive around, enjoy the foliage and see what has been created. It feels good to come together as a community to celebrate the fall season in a fun way and offer our visitors a unique foliage experience.”
This celebration of autumn in Vermont showcases a collection of upwards of 40 giant hay animals on display at businesses throughout town as well as a variety of daily activities and weekly events. A family-friendly educational scavenger hunt through the winding roads and across the mountains of Killington to find the giant hay sculptures is just one of the activities planned during the event. Despite Tropical Storm Irene’s wake, the Killington region has rebounded in just three weeks, repairing roads for easy travel to some of the most scenic fall foliage spots.
The Hay and Stay Package is available through Oct. 10, 2011. For reservations and more information, visit www.snowedinn.com or call 800.311.5406.
